Maisel Synagogue (Maiselova synagoga)
Like almost everything in Josefov, Meisel Synagogue was built by the rich mayor of the Jewish Town in 1592. The original Renaissance building was a victim of the big fire in 1689. A new neo-Gothic synagogue has been built in its place between the years 1893-1905, together with the demolition of the former Jewish ghetto and reconstruction of the main buildings.
Since the 1960s it has housed a fascinating collection of Jewish silver, textiles, prints and books, most of them brought to Prague by the Nazis with the intention of establishing a museum of the people they had in plan to wipe out.
