Agharta Jazz Club
This club is in real heart of Prague, few steps far away from Old Town Square. It was opened one day after death of Miles Davis, pioneer of modern Jazz and it was named – as you surely knows if you are in jazz – like his the most important album from 70’. The place is divided into three parts – a bar room with tables where you could sit and drink your best Prague’s jazz coffee and where you don’t need to pay entrance fee. Second room is CD shop where you could buy any jazz recording – even new and avant-garde recordings – and the main room is a place where concerts are being held. Third room is huge and there are many tables with chairs. You have to pay standard entrance fee 200CZK to enter this room. Walls of the club are made of bricks, the club is in the cellars of old building so the interior looks very oldschoolish and undergroundish with wooden tiling covering that bricks. In one word – cool jazz place.
Every day there is a concert. Jazz activities of Agharta also include the annual Agharta Prague Jazz Festival which has featured various distinguished artists, for example: The Brecker Brothers, Chick Corea, Candy Dulfer, Jan Garbarek, Diana Krall, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, Oregon, Maceo Parker, Courtney Pine, John Scofield, Wayne Shorter, Spyro Gyra, McCoy Tyner, Miroslav Vitous, Mark Whitfield, Yellow Jackets….
