Tourist routes for bikers

Bike kickstands You can take your bike to Prague, but don’t expect 90% of the inhabitants to be riding a bicycle. Rather the other way around. Bicycles are a common thing in the Czech Republic, but are used more in smaller towns and at the country side. Nevertheless, there are some well organized bike routes and even an institution that deals with the organising and maintaining of these routes in Prague. Their address is Bolzanova 1, 110 00, Prague 1, and phone: +420 221 197 111.

In Prague are about 180 km of bicycle-routes, out of which 60 km are outside the vehicle routes, including also precincts, park alleys and new build cycle-routes for bikers and pedestrians. It is enough to mouse-crop a part of the interactive map that interests you and the map will self increase, displaying the section you wanted.

Bike route directions The traffic signs are as seen in the picture yellow quadrangle on which is written the direction, number of km to the final destination. The arrows show the direction you need to take to get to your destination.

Bicycles can be parked in special places at almost any car park marked with P+R. Every P+R parking has a B+R (bike and ride) facility, where you can leave your bicycle in good hands. You will be able to transport your bike in the public transport system (metro, trams, buses) for free, as long as it is not between 5:30 and 8:30, 14:30 to 17:30 during working days, or when the traffic is over solicited.

Bike kickstand Kickstands have been placed mainly in the centre of the city and close parking lots for cars. Leaving your bike there is free of charge. In B+R (bike&ride) parking places you can pay for a special locker. You just have to go to the person in charge of the parking lot, pay him/her the small fee (20 CZK) and you will get an electronic card and locker. You will get your bike back on base of the card received from the officer. So, don’t forget to lock your bike before leaving it unsupervised. In case you leave your bicycle in the B+R for the night, you will have to pay a 100 CZK fee.

For those who would like to rent a bicycle or roller skates see bike rental section.
